Question: Gigacorp Revenue - Question II

Comment on Gigacorp Revenue - Question II

I don't understand why we select A and G or you can say I don't understand the question may you say it on another way?

There are 3 different routes (points of sale) through which the company makes money: catalog, in store, and online.

So, for example, the diagram tells us that, in 2003, the company had about 3 million dollars in revenue.
Of that $3,000,000:
- about $400,000 was through online sales
- about $1,700,000 was through in store sales
- about $900,000 was through catalog sales

Here, we can see that the revenue from in store sales ($1,700,000) was more than 50% of the TOTAL revenue of $3,000,000

So, answer choice A (2003) is correct because one point of sales (in the case, in store sales) accounted for more than 50% of the company's total revenue for that year.

Does that help?

Brent, your explanations are easy to follow. Thanks

Thanks bimla!

I understood the question as which one point of sale category account for Gigacorp's "total" revenue means, that which category in each bar graph exceeded 50% of TOTAL revenue. The "total" here means the total of whole revenue in all the years. I did not calculate individual years. Please explain as how to eliminate this mistake. I understood this way because the question says Gigacorp's revenue and not Gigacorp's revenue each year. Also using my method , I just came to conclusion that answer G which is 2009 in which the online category seems exceeding 50% of total revenue of Gigacorp in all years. Please explain.
Oh 1 minute, I just read the question again, so the word which of the following years is the catch? which means we have to see the revenue of each year?

"Oh 1 minute, I just read the question again, so the word which of the following years is the catch? which means we have to see the revenue of each year?"

That's correct; we are examining the revenue for each individual year.
