Lesson: Units of Measurement

Comment on Units of Measurement

I have a question here, though the unit is not required in geometry but will be required in Data Interpretation questions. Not sure if it is covered in that topic as I have not reached DI module till now, but asking this because I may forget to ask in future. There are values of population mentioned for eg. as 50 million. So I get confusion about the number of zeros 1 million has even though I remember the fact that 1 million = 10 lakhs, I still get confused because of the number of zeros. Is there an easy and less confusing approach by you suggested? Please help.

How about this:

1 million = 1,000,000
10 million = 10,000,000
100 million = 100,000,000
1 billion: 1,000,000,000
10 billion: 10,000,000,000
100 billion: 100,000,000,000
1 trillion: 1,000,000,000,000

So we must memorize the number of zeros for these big values? But during calculations I find it tedious to write and time consuming. Do you have a smarter notation to write them? Like you write, 3+ for numbers greater than 6 and 3- for numbers less than 6. Likewise any tip?

You really just need to memorize the numerical equivalents of 1 million, 1 billion and 1 trillion.

Even easier, just remember their ascending order: THousands, Millions, Billions, TRillions

How about "THe Man Bought a TRuck" (I'm sure others can come up with a more memorable mnemonic :-)
