Question: Sum of Squares

Comment on Sum of Squares

If I look at xy=8 and x-y=6 why can't I use 4=x and 2=y (which multiply to give 8, and subtract to give 6), to get 4^2+2^2=20?

If x = 4 and y = 2, then x - y does not equal 6.
