Comment on Combining Factoring Techniques

For the question, https://gre.myprepclub.com/forum/if-x-3-3x-2-10x-0-indicate-all-the-possible-5225.html - isn't the answer suppose to be "b,e,f" - and not "b,c,f?"

Be careful.
The question asks us to "indicate all the possible values for the SUM OF ANY TWO SOLUTIONS for x."

So, the possible solutions for x are: x = 0, x = -5, and x = 2

Now let's look at the 3 possible SUMS of two solutions:
1) 0 + (-5) = -5
2) 0 + 2 = 2
3) (-5) + 2 = -3

So, the three possible SUMS are: -5 (B), 2 (F) and -3 (C)

Does that help?

https://gre.myprepclub.com/forum/evaluate-4x-2y-6x-3y-2164.html

I solved this question through simultaneous equations:
4x - 2y = 18
6x + 3y = 18
Giving me a value of x as 3.75 and y = -1.5
When I put these values in the B choice the answer is 50 something making it the larger value.

What am I doing wrong?

I'm not sure how you got the equations 4x - 2y = 18 and 6x + 3y = 18

If (something)(something else) = 18, we can't conclude that (something) = 18 and (something else) = 18

In other words, if AB = 18, then we can't say that A = 18 and B = 18

Here's my full solution: https://gre.myprepclub.com/forum/evaluate-4x-2y-6x-3y-2164.html#p29065

Please where did you teach special products simplication at time 3:27

I first discuss special products at 2:40 in the following video: https://www.greenlighttestprep.com/module/gre-algebra-and-equation-solvi...

Then, I discuss factoring special products at 4:48 in this video: https://www.greenlighttestprep.com/module/gre-algebra-and-equation-solvi...

Given: x³ + 3x² - 10x = 0
Factor out x to get: x(x² + 3x - 10) = 0
Factor quadratic to get: x(x + 5)(x - 2) = 0

So, x = 0, or x + 5 = 0, or x - 2 = 0
If x + 5 = 0, then x = -5
If x - 2 = 0, then x = 2

The 3 solutions are: x = 0, x = -5, and x = 2

Adding all 3 possible pairs of solutions, we get the following sums: -5, 2, and -3

why did you add 3 possible pairs of solutions? I get -5, 2 but why -3?
