Lesson: Number of Solutions to a System

Comment on Number of Solutions to a System

This kind of equations can be appear on the GRE test? or is only for a better understanding.

The concepts in this lesson COULD appear as part of a larger question on the GRE.

Does having a solution mean knowing where the two lines will intersect?

Exactly!

If two equations have ONE solution, we know that, if we were to graph both equations, they would intersect at ONE point.
If two equations have ZERO solutions, we know that, if we were to graph both equations, the lines would be parallel and NEVER INTERSECT.
If two equations have INFINITELY-MANY solutions, we know that, if we were to graph both equations, the two lines would be IDENTICAL.
