You are correct when you write (-)(-)= +

In other words, (NEGATIVE)(NEGATIVE) = POSITIVE

However, in (-4) x 2, we have (NEGATIVE)(POSITIVE)

That is, -4 is negative and 2 is positive.

So, (-4) x 2 = -8
