Lesson: Introduction to Data Interpretation

IMPORTANT: On September 22, 2023, ETS (the GRE test-makers) changed the format of the GRE. The updated tests still tests the same content the "old" edition tested, EXCEPT the Analyze the Argument essay has been removed from the Analytical Writing section. The new test also has shorter sections. The details of these changes can be found here. 

The layout of this prep course, including the Study Guide, will not be updated to reflect the changes to the test as Brent, the founder of Greenlight Test Prep, has recently joined the team at Target Test Prep.  

That said, since this video prep course still covers all of the content tested on the updated edition, it can still be used to prepare. The onus, however, will be on you to to familiarize yourself with the changes to the test, which can be found here.

Hello!
I have a two question regarding additional ETS Question (Data Interpretation Module, 3rd edition)

1) 133 #2: In the ETS explanation its stated "Therefore, the desired percent can be obtained by dividing A by 0.92A"
I dont know why it has to be divided by "A"

2) 324 #a: I dont get the question at all. Please kindly explain why the answer is 17,550.

2) Question (a) on page 324 isn't anywhere to be found on the GRE forums, so here's my response:

Step 1: Examine the bar graph and look for two black bars (indicating 2003 figures) that add to 49%.
We can see that MORTGAGE (24%) and SAVINGS (25%) add to 49%.

Step 2: Determine the PERCENTAGE of income spent on these two categories for 2004
In 2004, MORTGAGE accounted for 27% on the family's income, and SAVINGS accounted for 12% of the family's income
27% + 12% = 39%
So, in 2004, the family spent 39% of its income on MORTGAGE and SAVINGS

Step 3: Determine the dollar amount spent on MORTGAGE and SAVINGS in 2004
The 2004 income = $45,000
39% of $45,000 = (0.39)($45,000)
= $17,550
