Lesson: Trap Answers

Comment on Trap Answers

Difficulty of VERY HARD for this one. I just highly doubt that the GRE writers would force you to know the difference between "disinterested" and "uninterested," particularly over the very subtle differences between "dis" and "un." Toss this question out.

It's difficult to predict what the test-makers would or wouldn't do.
Here are a few other resources that feel the distinction would be fair game on test day:

Mann, you know all those sites, huh? What other tricks and resources do you have up your sleeve?! :)

That's pretty much it.
My sleeves are now empty :-)

why not A and F for the first question

I believe you're referring to the question that starts at 1:01 in the above video.

A and F are a good pair that would qualify as the second best answer.

If these were the correct words, then the sentence would read:
Sarah's UNYIELDING passion for the project stemmed from a growing awareness that her own professional goals were in no way DETRIMENTAL to those of the organization.

This sentence essentially says that, Sarah is super passionate about the job BECAUSE the organization's goals aren't detrimental to her own goals. This doesn't really make sense.

The key here is that NOT DETRIMENTAL doesn't necessarily imply something is POSITIVE.

For example, let's say that one of Sarah's professional goals is to become a better public speaker. Let's also say that one of the organization's goals is to give a machine gun to every toddler in the world.

Since Sarah's professional goal isn't detrimental to the organization's goals, can we then conclude that Sarah must have unyielding passion for the project? No.

Does that help?
