Optimize your GRE prep sessions

To get the most out of the Study Guide, consider the following tips:

First content, then speed

When preparing for the GRE, learn the content first and concern yourself with speed second.  The Study Guide provides ample opportunities to work on speed later, once you have learned the necessary content.

Build a strong foundation

Understand the core concepts and strategies in each lesson before proceeding to the practice questions.  Remember, you can replay lessons as often as you need, so be sure to do this until you fully understand each concept.

Review all solutions

Even when you answer a practice question correctly, the solution may provide insight into a better strategy that you can apply to other questions.  So, be sure to review all solutions.

Take notes

Just as you do in class, take notes as you study each video module.  Then create flashcards to help you focus on areas of weakness.

Review stubborn questions

Don’t ignore a difficult question.  Review its solution until you fully understand it.

Remain positive

A negative attitude will hamper your studies.  In his book, How to be a Successful Student, Donald Martin notes that research shows, “...people who begin consciously to modify their inner conversations and assumptions report an almost immediate improvement in their performance.  Their energy increases and things seem to go better...”  As Zig Ziglar says, "Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.”
